New-Old Experience

New-Old Experience and Fate

I recently was asked to do some freelance work by a coworker. I hadn't done any freelance work officially for a few years but as fate would have it. It's a little strange though -- had my coworker asked me a or two ago -- I would have been completely unprepared -- but as fate would have it I started looking into freelance development and started getting used to all the new tools available and all the nuances it involves now-a-days. My philosophy has always been things always happen for a reason -- and this situation fits perfectly with that way of thinking.

Anyways this new project involves two musicians who want to take all of their own private music collection and create a manageable library for themselves and select public users. This project has all of the usual requirements:

  • Has to be responsive and look great on all devices
  • Search capabilities (indexing)
  • Be intuitive
  • Have the ability to be expanded later on in the future (possible future work)
  • Others...

Those are only a few of the requirements they set. Now functionality and user experience has always been my area of expertise -- but user interface design has always been my weak point. I'm a minimalist. Usually I offload that part to someone else and just templatize it and code around it. But this time I'm going to take it on myself -- the guys I'm working with are minimalists so it should bring in some leniency design wise.

I've been looking into web design work flow for a few months now -- from concept to wire frames to produciton sites. With this project I'm currently on the wire framing stage.

So here's what I've got so far:

Project Type: CMS

Backend: PHP & MySQL

Front End: MarionetteJS / BackboneJS
